Mayor Making Ceremony
Wolverhampton City Council webcast their Annual Meeting on the 16th May. Each year the event in the Wulfrun Hall is attended by councillors, senior officers and guests representing a wide range of city businesses and organisations, both public and private sector, including voluntary and community groups. Councillor Trudy Bowen, said: “The webcast will open up this ceremony to thousands of people who would not normally get to see what goes on behind closed doors. During my time as mayor, a key theme for me will be Wolverhampton and its place in the global village. “Technology like the internet means that our city can promote itself locally, nationally and internationally which is becoming increasingly important. I hope as many people as possible will watch the webcast and see how this important part of civic life works.”

As he says “The challenge is to tempt a new audience who would not normally take an interest in local affairs”. Terry Huggins is committed to continuing for at least six sessions to make this breakthrough. Each episode is recorded using portable equipment. In his second podcast he introduced a second voice through speaking to one of the Council’s head of service about his work and the intention is to enhance future podcasts further by extending his interviews to include portfolio holders and other senior members

Record viewership for a single event
A Spanish council has recently completed one of the most popular webcasts to date last month. Mostoles, a suburb of Madrid completed a live transmission of a housing lottery, a uniquely Spanish way of providing subsidised housing to the deserving. The event was unsurprisingly hugely popular with 4,976 people watching live and a further 12,767 watching the archive. With these levels of interest MSS are highly confident that there will be many more of these events coming up. MSS events.
